Landing Craft

Although Dan Taylor Modelworks may be a new name to you, we have been producing master models for other manufacturers for some years. We have spent years researching and collecting infrmation about Landing Craft involved in the Normandy landings. Listed below are some of the more more sizable projects with links to sites where you can purchase them. Each is built to 1/76 scale. Click on the pictures you will see some photographs of the models being built.

Landing Craft Infantry (Large)

Available from Milicast is this kit of the LCI(L). The model scales out at 684mm in length and carries astonishing levels of detail. The kit is mixed media with 286 resin parts and 79 etched brass parts. It includes a twelve page instruction booklet along with full colour painting instructions and water-slide transfers for seven craft. The vessel can be built in two guises - a short bridged UK version or a taller bridged US version. Milicast also offer sets of Landing Craft crew and British Infantry in assault equipment to go with these vessels.

Landing Craft Tank Mk IV

Accurate Armour offer this 1/76 scale model of the LCT IV. It is approximately 760mm long and 160mm wide and comprises 199 resin parts, 115 etched brass parts plus plastic rod sections for details. Instructions include a fully illustrated booklet and full colour painting illustrations for five craft along with a set of water-slide transfers.

Landing Craft Flak Mk IV

Based on the craft above, the LCF IV includes twelve anti-aircraft guns all reproduced in minute details. There are 344 resin parts and 254 etched brass parts along with sections of plastic rod. The 16 page instruction manual includes a painting guide and water-slide transfers are included.

Landing Craft Tank Mk 5

The latest of the masters created for Accurate Armour, this is the US built LCT 5. In 1/76 scale the model is 470mm long and is another mixed media kit. It has 157 resin parts and 70 etched brass parts plus odments of plastic rod. AA also produce a ramp kit to convert the basic vessel to one carrying the Royal Marine Armoured Support Group. A plan set is available for the LCA and LCPL. The LCA version comprises a five view set of detail plans for the craft plus two cross sections, one lengthways section and two camouflage drawings. They are prepared from original wartime maker's drawings with plentiful detail added from contemporary photographs and are rendered in full colour. Available in 1/76 scale on A4 - Price £8 or 1/48 scale on A3 - Price £12.
