3 CLY (Sharpshooters), Sicily & Italy
After the successful battle of Alam Halfa in August 1942, 3 CLY was withdrawn from 7th Armoured Division and re-equipped on Sherman Mk IIIs with 4th Armoured Brigade. Their next deployment was as part of the invasion force for Operation Husky - the invasion of Sicily on 9th July 1943. They fought through the Sicilian campaign and then moved on to Italy as part of 8th Army advancing up the East Coast of Italy. In December 1943 they were ordered back to the UK in order to become part of the invasion force for the landings in Normandy.
This set comprises specific markings for nine Sherman Mk III tanks, two M3A1 White Scout Cars and two Daimler ‘Dingo’ Scout Cars. Additionally there are generic markings for further vehicles.
