3/ s.SS Pz-Abt 101
When the heavy tank abteilung of 1 SS Panzer Corps was created in the summer of 1943, 1. and 2. Kompanien were still attached to 1 SS Panzer Division. 3.Kompanie were, therefore, the first element of the new unit to be formed at he Abteilung's new home at Sennelager. Consequently, they received what is now considered 'mid-production' Tigers, with rubber rimmed roadwheels, making them easier to identify in Normandy. (the exception is 1.Kompnie's 3 Zug which was formed using 3.Kompanie's spare vehicles). Initial losses in Normandy meant that 1.Kompanie's personnel were withdrawn to retrain on the Tiger II, their tanks were distributed between the other two kompanien and so anomlies appear int eh photographic record. 3. Kompanie fought throughout the Normandy campaign though none of their Tigers survived the retreat at the end of the campaign.
This set provides markings for all fourteen of the kompanie's Tigers plus one of the Abteilung's command tanks (Befehlswagen).
Though marked as 1/76 scale, the markings are perfectly suitable for 1/72 models.
