A17 Tetrarch Light Tank
Originally intended as a replacement for the Vickers Light Tank, Mk VI, the combination of problems with the cooling system, and a change in the Army's policy towards the use of light tanks, meant that the Tetrarch was never sent to North Africa as had been intended.
Instead it was allocated to the reconnaissance units of the Airborne Divisions. It was used operationally in the invasion of Madagascar and for the D-Day landings in Normandy. A few were also sent to the USSR (who were favourably impressed by the tank). However, the thin armour and an excessive workload for the three man crew, meant that it struggled to find a niche and it was officially retired, without further use, shortly after the end of the war. Between 100 and 177 examples were built.
This set provides markings for four Tetrarch tanks.
