IBG's excellent rendition of the A15 Crusader has presented the opportunity to make a more definitive conversion of that tank's neglected cousin, the A13 Cruiser Mk V, Covenanter.
Despite being considered one of the poorer British tank designs of WWII, the Covenanter was a good-looking vehicle. Its chief drawback was that it had been ordered off the drawing board, with no allowance for fixing its shortcomings - in particular its cooling system and the complicated compressed air system controlling the transmission. As a consequence it was never considered fit for active service overseas. Instead it was used for training in the UK and, in this regard, proved useful as its lack of reliability offered ample opportunities for its crews to develop their skills in AFV maintenance. It was developed through four main variants and 1,771 were built.
This mixed media model combines with IBG’s Crusader Mk I or Mk II kits to recreate a neglected example of wartime AFV history. This 1/76 scale set is intended to build into a Covenanter Mk II, though additional parts and advise in the instructions make it easy to build a Mk IV as well..
