Gun Barrel, 2-pdr QF Mk IX
The two-pounder was the standard British tank gun from 1938 until the arrival of the 6-pdr gun in 1942. It was fitted to all the major tank types - A9 Cruiser Mk I, A10 Cruiser Mk II, A12 Matilda II, A13 Cruiser Mks III, IV, V, and Cruiser Mk VI and was an anti-tank gun in its own right. When the War started it was equivalent to, or better than, the standard armament of other major nations but the desperate situation through 1940/41 meant that production could not be interrupted in order to produce its successor. Consequently, its forced use into 1942 highlighted the fact that other users, particularly Germany had moved on.
Two types were employed - the Mk IX, as depicted in this kit, and the Mk X which had a step in the barrel. This fine reproduction of the gun is precision made and is suitable for both 1/76 and 1/72 scale models.
