To complete our set of transfers for the aircraft that took part in the operation to capture Pegasus Bridge on D-Day, we present the serials for the HP Halifax Mk V aircraft that towed the Horsa gliders. This set has serial numbers and aircraft codes for each of the six towing aircraft that took part in the coup-de-main operation.
The new Revell Halifax provides all the parts necessary to build the Mk V version. This includes the distinctive Dowty levered suspension - the Dowty’s weakness was the reason that the Mk V was considered insufficiently robust to be used as a bomber. These instructions show which parts to use to accurately build the correct version.
Also included are details on each of the aircraft and which glider it was designated to tow. In addition to their part in Operation Tonga, the squadron also took part in the air landing on the afternoon of D-Day, Operation Mallard.
