M3 Grant Mk I Conversion Set
The American M3 Grant tank had a relatively short service life but made a significant impact on fighting in the Western Desert. For the first time the British had a tank gun that was superior to contemporary German guns and provided the Afrikakorps with an unpleasant surprise. However, the gun's location in a sponson on the right hand side of the hull, with limited traverse, meant that it was tactically compromised. The Grant was eagerly adopted by the 8th Army and was used from the summer of 1942 through Alamein and the advance to Tripoli.
