Marston Matting (PSP)
In order to build forward landing grounds quickly, a system of interlocking panels was created called Marston Matting, but often referred to as Pierced Steel Planking, or PSP for short. Each panel was 10-foot long and 15-inches wide and had 87 poles punched in to to make it lighter. An equivalent aluminium panel was also created for air transportation called PAP. Besides airfields, the PSP could be used to strengthen roadways and and sand channels, in which guise it is still in use today.
This set comprises six full panels and one half panel, which was used to stagger placement of the rows.
