Paratroop Embarkation
These six unpainted resin figures represent members of the Parachute Regiment as they would have appeared in 1944. The two figures synchronising their watches are wearing the standard camouflage smock, the other four wear, in addition, the plain, green, sleeveless oversmock and life preserver. An additional feature is a drop-bag in which additional equipment was carried.
They are based on photographs taken at RAF Harwell on the eve of D-Day. The troops are Pathfinders from 22 (Independent) Parachute Company. This unit landed ahead of the main nightime drop in order to mark the drop zones with lights. They were carried in Armstrong-Whitworth Albemarles which were accessed under the fuselage, hense the crouched figure who is trying to enter the aircraft despite the weight of equipment he carries.
